The stage is set for No. 7 Florida State soccer and No. 18 North Carolina as the two storied programs face each other in a prime-time nationally televised showdown.
FSU (6-0-1) will travel to Chapel Hill to face the Tar Heels (7-2-0) at Dorrance Field, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
“The last two national champions, UNC and Florida State, on primetime, right for the whole college soccer world to see, is a pretty cool opportunity for both teams, and both sets of kids,” FSU head coach Brian Pensky said. “
It’s the 52nd meeting between the programs, with FSU holding a 14-31-1 record against the Tar Heels all-time. The Seminoles have won four in a row, most recently a 4-0 win over Syracuse. The Seminoles are 2-0 in ACC play after wins over the Orange and Louisville.
FSU striker Wrianna Hudson has scored in four straight and she has scored a goal in all but one game, recording a team high seven goals. Fellow forward Jordynn Dudley has recorded two goals and five assists, and both she and Hudson form a formidable attacking duo for the Seminoles.
Both Heather Gilchrist and Yuna McCormack are second on the team with three goals each.
North Carolina’s Oliva Thomas, eight goals, and Kate Faasse, five goals, are the team’s top scorers. North Carolina has won six straight heading into the matchup with the Seminoles.
“I’m excited for Wednesday night, it’s a tall challenge,” Pensky said. “But we’re excited and in a pretty good place mentally and physically.”
