Florida scores major recruiting coup with Cahron Wheeler's commitment

Florida obtained another blue-chip commitment on Friday after landing four-star edge rusher Cahron Wheeler. The No. 11 defensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class announced his decision following an official visit to Gainesville last week.

Wheeler was a priority target for Brad White and the Gators’ defensive coaching staff. The Baltimore native chose Florida over several other contenders, a list that includes Clemson, Maryland, Auburn and Texas A&M. As the fifth defensive line addition to the class, Wheeler joins four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes — who made his commitment official on Wednesday — on the front.

Wheeler had a breakout junior season for St. Paul School in Brooklandville, Maryland, with his performance helping lead the Pelicans to their first state title in 12 years. After tallying 30 tackles and four sacks, the 6-foot-7-inch, 260-pound prospect vaulted into the national recruiting conversation.

With Kennedee Jackson also pledging to Florida this week, the Gators now have 13 blue-chip commitments in the cycle. The class has been ranked as high as No. 3 by the 247Sports composite.

Cahron Wheeler’s recruiting summary

Wheeler is listed at No. 108 overall and No. 11 at his position according to the 247Sports composite, while On3 industry rankings have him at Nos. 128 and 14, respectively. He had 21 total offers, including eight SEC teams. Other conference programs in pursuit of the blue-chipper included Auburn, Texas A&M and Tennessee.
