A Vero Beach man has been arrested on several charges including attempted murder, after a party ended and people would not take him where he wanted to go, according to an arrest affidavit.
Collin Ryan Smith, 25, of the 4900 block of Corsica Square in Vero Beach, was booked into the Indian River County Jail July 17 at 3:49 a.m. and has a $250,000 bond, according to the jail website.
Indian River County deputies were dispatched at 1:49 a.m. July 17 to a home in Vero Beach about a disturbance in progress, according to the arrest report.
Deputies were met by four people who said a group of people had been at the house celebrating a birthday, and when the party started to settle down, a man later identified as Smith wanted a ride to a bar. When told no one was going to give him a ride, he began yelling, waking up people in the house.
A woman told Smith to leave the house, but he refused and prevented her from leaving. She pushed him out of the way, but he grabbed her hair and dragged her down the hallway into the kitchen. He’s accused of getting on top of the woman and choking her until she was unconscious, according to the arrest affidavit.
A different women told deputies she had been asleep when she heard yelling and when she came out of her room Smith grabbed her by her hair, pulled her outside, and threw her to the ground.
A third woman at the house told deputies she saw Smith throw a woman into a ditch in the front of the house, and when she went to pull him off of her, he hit her in the mouth and threw her to the ground. Then, according to the arrest affidavit, he pressed her to the side of a vehicle and pressed against her neck causing restricted blood flow to her head.
A man who was at the house told deputies he saw Smith attacking the three women so he intervened by fighting Smith off of them.
A neighbor gave deputies a written statement that said he heard screaming from inside the house so he went outside and saw a man pick a woman up and slam her to the ground before he started yelling at the man to stop hitting the woman. He said he told one of the other women to call 911.
Deputies found a bullet in one woman’s bedroom, which she said fell out of Smith’s pocket.
Smith left in a Ford pickup truck. Deputies enacted a “be on the lookout” for nearby law enforcement units who were told to conduct a traffic stop if they saw the truck, according to the arrest affidavit.
Smith was stopped in the 1400 block of 96th Street. During the traffic stop, deputies found a glass smoking device in his pocket. They said he smelled of alcohol, and refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Smith denied he had been drinking and denied hitting any of the women at the house.
Deputies found ammunition in the truck that matched a handgun deputies found in the middle of the street next to the traffic stop. Deputies said video shows something being thrown out the window of Smith’s truck during the traffic stop.
These are the charges Smith is facing, according to the Indian River County Clerk of Courts website.
