Ryan Fox picked up 750 FedEx Cup points for winning the Open Championship, moving him well inside the top 30 on this week’s points list to No. 21.
Now that all four majors (and The Players) and signature events are in the books, the focus will be on the stretch run for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, for the top 70 players on the points list.
There are three FedEx Cup events left on the schedule: this week’s 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities (July 23-26), the Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club (July 30-Aug. 2) and the Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. (Aug. 6-9). Each event doles out 500 points to the winner.
The top 70 after Greensboro will advance to the first of three FedEx Playoff events, the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Aug. 13-16 at the TPC Southwind in Memphis. The top 50 in points after that head for the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis for the BMW Championship, and the top 30 from that tournament will be in Atlanta for the finale, the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club.
Scottie Scheffler remains in the lead
Scottie Scheffler stayed safely atop the points list after his tie for fourth at Royal Birkdale, leading Matt Fitzpatrick by 595 points and Cameron Young by 737. The top seven were unchanged, with Sam Burns (third in the Open) moving from 10th to eighth.
Scheffler can beef up his lead this week at the 3M Open, a tournament he’s playing for the first time. The only other players among the top 30 on the points list in the field are Fox and No. 29 Gary Woodland.
