Florida Italian restaurant has 30-inch gourmet Brooklyn pizza, pinwheels

Al Forno Pizza in Port St. Lucie has new owners and is changing into a new specialty Brooklyn-style pizza restaurant with giant 30-inch pizza pies and signature pinwheels.

Labby’s Pizzeria on Gatlin Boulevard will serve what the owner said is the largest pizza in Port St. Lucie.

The menu has many different variations of specialty pizzas, pastas, calzones, hot subs, salads, stromboli and a 30-inch party pizza.

The new owner, Jeremy Labianca, has run multiple Italian spots, including Anthony V’s in Tradition for one year, and Labby’s Pizza & Pasta in Port St. Lucie for four years, which is now Francesca’s Pizza.

He also ran the Labby’s Italian Eats food truck for four years, a mobile kitchen known for its gourmet pizza pinwheels, and Salerno Pizza with his cousin from 2005-13.

Labianca has over 20 years of pizza-making experience, according to his website. When he owned the Labby’s Italian Eats food truck, he became known as “The King of Pinwheels,” according to the website.

Gourmet pizzas include pickle, lasagna, chicken alfredo, hot honey

Inspired by his parents’ love story, his grandmother’s love for cooking, his grandfather’s hard-working spirit and pressure from the community to open a pizza spot, Labianca decided he couldn’t miss the opportunity to take over Al Forno Pizza.

“We did two months of work in two weeks,” Labianca told TCPalm. “We bought the place June 1 and opened June 15.”

He said they had to give the space a new life and brighten up the interior. Now, the restaurant is decorated with brick accents, bright and funny LED signs and a small mural painting of their logo.

Family-owned, family centered

There are four red tables with gingham-patterned tablecloths and a few red chairs at each. The pizzeria is small, but designed to make customers feel comfortable with the space they’ve got. Labianca said customer service is his top priority.

Labianca said he enjoys helping the community with donations and food, especially the Port St. Lucie Athletic Association. Now that he has his own pizzeria with a larger kitchen, he said helping the community will be much easier.

“Everyone is family and family is everything,” Labianca said. “That’s just the Italian way.”
