Florida football actually inches up in FPI after Week 12 loss at Ole Miss Rebels

Florida football dropped its third-straight game during Week 12 on the road against the Ole Miss Rebels. The Gators were unable to keep up with Lane Kiffin’s squad for the full 60 minutes of play and came away with a 34-24 defeat.

The Orange and Blue have just three wins in 10 games so far this season and now represent a fourth losing season in the past five years, while the major polls have ignored them for months. Giving Billy Napier his walking papers did little to float the sinking ship, as the current winning streak began when Billy Gonzales took the head coaching reins.

Predictably, Florida remains voteless in both major polls and objective computer-based rankings have also lost their optimism — including this week’s edition of ESPN’s Football Power Index.

Where Florida ranks in ESPN’s FPI after Week 12

Last week’s FPI rankings had the Gators ranked 35th in the nation, down from 25th the week prior. This time around, Florida finds itself actually up one spot to No. 34 with a 0.1-point increase for an 8.6 overall rating, putting the Orange and Blue between the No. 33 Kentucky Wildcats and No. 35 Louisville Cardinals.

Florida was ranked 18th to start the season.

FPI now predicts an even 3.9-8.1 regular-season record, with an elevated 17.7% chance of winning out; Florida’s chance of reaching the six-win mark obviously fell from 3.4% to 0%, as well as 0% odds to win the conference and a 0% chance to make the College Football Playoff.
