A 1-acre brush fire in a residential community on the morning of April 30 likely started from a downed power line, said Martin County Fire Rescue officials.
Crews went to the brush fire at 6:10 a.m. in the 11500 block of Southwest Meadowlark Circle in Foxwood Estates in southwest Martin County, said Fire Rescue spokesperson Jillian Kay.
It’s located east of Pratt Whitney Road, south of South Fork High School and just west of Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95.
They found the brush fire was about 1 acre in size between two structures, Kay said, but they put out the fire before it reached any structures.
Florida Forest Service crews plowed a line around the scorched area to prevent the fire from spreading farther, she said.
The cause of the fire appeared to be a downed power line, Kay said, and FPL was on the scene to assess the exposed power lines.
No homes were evacuated, but Martin County sheriff’s officials were monitoring the scene.
