Florida basketball's Alex Condon earns share of SEC Player of the Week

Florida basketball’s starting forward Alex Condon was recognized by the Southeastern Conference on Monday, sharing the SEC Player of the Week Award with Texas A&M Aggies forward Rashaun Agee.

The junior from Australia put together a torrid two games since nearly being blanked by the Auburn Tigers two weeks ago. Condon just missed a triple-double in a historic blowout win at the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday, tallying 10 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, followed by a season-high 25 points along with seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocked shots — and no turnovers — in the home win against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

His 14 assists over the two games match teammate Boogie Fland for most in the SEC this week.

It is the first time this season that Condon has earned the honor, adding to his total to give him four during his Gainesville tenure. That puts him one behind guard Vernon Maxwell and ties him with center Colin Castleton for the most in program history.

He is also the third Gator to claim the league’s weekly honor this season, following in the footsteps of forward Thomas Haugh and center Rueben Chinyelu, marking the fourth time the team has had three different players earn SEC Player of the Week honors in a season. Previously, Teddy Dupay, Udonis Haslem and Brett Nelson first achieved the feat in 2000-01, followed by Matt Bonner, Anthony Roberson, Matt Walsh in 2002-03, and Michael Frazier II, Casey Prather and Scottie Wilbekin in 2013-14.
