FHP: Southbound I-95 near Cocoa slowed after dump truck strikes overpass and flees

Southbound Interstate 95 slowed in Brevard County near the State Road 528 exit on the afternoon of Aug. 29 after a dump truck crashed into an overpass, knocking concrete chunks into the roadway, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Troopers said the dump truck with an excavator hit the overpass, causing damage, before fleeing the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

One lane of southbound traffic near Cocoa remained open after the crash, described in initial reports as a major hit-and-run with injuries.No further details on the nature of the crash were immediately available.
