“At Family Dollar, we’re focused on making it easier for customers to access the value they count on every day,” said Chris Hooks, Family Dollar president and chief commercial officer. “Our partnership with DoorDash to enable SNAP/EBT payments nationwide is an important step in removing barriers for our customers and expands how and where we serve them, bringing greater flexibility, convenience and speed to the shopping experience.”

This is an important step, as a DoorDash report surveying SNAP/EBT users on it platform found that 43% live in food deserts, locations where transportation to grocery stores is difficult. Nearly one in four people surveyed reported health or mobility challenges that made it harder to shop in person.

There are nealy 490 Family Dollar locations in Florida.

DoorDash currently offers delivery from more than 50,000 retail stores nationwide that accept SNAP/EBT including Dollar General, and said nearly 3 million people have added their SNAP card to their DoorDash account. Some other grocery stores, such as Publix and Aldi, use Instacart and also accept SNAP/EBT payments for eligible items.

How do I use SNAP/EBT when I order from Family Dollar?

You’ll need to add your SNAP card to your DoorDash account if you haven’t already.

When you check out, a SNAP-eligible subtotal will appear and will be appolied to the order. You cna choose to adjust the SNAP amount paid at that time.

What is SNAP?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program that assists low-income seniors, people with disabilities living on fixed incomes, and other individuals and families with low incomes to help them buy nutritious food. SNAP is part of the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.

What can I order from Dollar General under SNAP?

SNAP benefits may be used for breads, cereals, fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, and dairy. Recipients can also buy plants and seeds to grow food for their households to eat.

SNAP does not cover nonfood items such as pet foods, soaps, paper products, household supplies, grooming items, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vitamins, and medicines, and may not be used to buy food to eat in the store, or hot foods.

Note that as of April 20, SNAP recipients in Florida will no longer be permitted to use the benefits to buy candy, sodas, energy drinks or pre-packaged prepared desserts.
