Escambia Fire crews rescue person trapped in vehicle after crash on Nine Mile Road

Four individuals were transported to area hospitals late July 1 following a two-vehicle crash on Nine Mile Road.

Escambia County Fire Rescue were called to the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Airway Drive after the crash trapped one of the occupants in a vehicle.

“On-scene crews utilized battery-powered and hydraulic extrication tools to remove the entire driver’s side of the car, making access to the trapped occupant,” an ECFR release said.

Florida Highway Patrol says a woman from Crestview was driving a black Volkswagen Beetle eastbound on Nine Mile Road when a a white Toyota Corolla pulled into its path from Airway Drive.

“The Beetle attempted to swerve into the outside lane to avoid a collision, but the vehicles collided within the intersection,” FHP said.

The driver of the Corolla sustained serious bodily injures and was stabilized at the hospital, according to FHP. All four involved were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart for medical evaluation.
