Elite CB commit recruiting blue-chip Miami edge to FSU

FSU did a masterful job flipping four-star wide receiver Devin Carter, four-star cornerback Jay Timmons, and four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal in June. Now, five-star cornerback commit Chauncey Kennon is trying to add another one to the list.

Florida State and the Miami Hurricanes are bitter in-state rivals, which means they battle all the time for recruits. The Seminoles were the first to offer four-star edge Asharri Charles in January of 2023. However, he committed to Miami last month. On Sunday, Kennon went to social media to recruit Charles to flip to Florida State.

It makes sense for Kennon to want Charles in Tallahassee. The Seminoles have four defensive linemen in their 2026 class but they’re still looking to find an edge commit, especially after missing on three-star edge Katrell Webb on Saturday.

Another reason it’s understandable for Kennon to recruit Charles is that the latter is a stud on the field. He is coming off a monster year at Venice High School, where he registered 107 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and six pass breakups. This helped Venice win the Florida 7A state title.

The pitch by Kennon comes at a very interesting time as well. Despite his commitment to Miami, Charles has an official visit with FSU in August, which is the same weekend they’ll host the Alabama Crimson Tide in their season opener.

Kennon has already shown his loyalty to the program by getting an FSU-inspired tattoo. If he were to convince Charles to flip, it would only enhance the love Seminole fans have for him.

Charles is ranked No. 206 nationally and he’s the No. 21 edge in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. They also have the 6-foot-2, 230-pounder as the No. 29 prospect in Florida.
