Dolphins star takes small step to signing contract extension

After moving on from several key players this offseason, the Miami Dolphins need to find some franchises pieces to build around under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley.

At the top of that list for Miami is running back De’Von Achane, who has rushed for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns on 5.6 yards per attempt and caught 172 passes for another 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns in his three years in South Florida.

While the two sides work on a contract extension, Achane wasn’t in the building for the start of their offseason program. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the running back was seen at the team’s training facility on Thursday as a “sign of good faith” during the talks.

The 24-year-old has been dynamic since the Dolphins took in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft out of Texas A&M. He earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time in 2025, and now he’s set to enter the final year of his rookie deal, making a $1.15 million base salary.

Sullivan and Hafley seem to be on the same page with their interest in getting Achane locked up on a long-term team, so this could get all wrapped up in the near future.
