It’s that time of year all kids look forward to: Christmas break. Or winter break, as it is listed on some school calendars.
With Christmas — and subsequently New Year’s Day — falling on a Thursday this year, most Florida schools opted to start the long break on Monday, Dec. 22.
When students return to the classroom varies by county and ranges from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8.
Collier County Public Schools students get more than two weeks out of the classrom.
When are Collier County Public Schools out for winter break?
Collier County students will be out of the classroom starting Saturday, Dec. 20, with winter break officially beginning, end of the school day, Friday, Dec. 19.
After that, no Collier County school for students the week of Christmas and the week of New Year’s. Teachers return on Monday, Jan. 5, but students don’t have to be back until the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Teachers in a few counties return to the classroom Jan. 2, although most are scheduled to return Jan. 5-6 for work or planning days.
It’ll be easier to keep track of the next holiday in January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Schools will be closed in all 67 Florida counties on Jan. 19, with one county also closing the Friday before for a four-day weekend.
