Death investigation underway after human bones found in East Lakeland

Human bones were found in rural East Lakeland, prompting a death investigation.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched about 7 p.m. May 28 to a wooded area near Fish Hatchery and Morgan Combee roads, in unincorporated Lakeland.

The area is near Saddle Creek Park and Aldine Combee Park, about a mile north of Memorial Boulevard.

The Sheriff’s Office said and active death investigation is underway, and more information would be released later in the day.
