The Indianapolis Colts will roll with Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback against the Miami Dolphins and keep Anthony Richardson on the sideline, head coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday morning.
“He’s our starting quarterback for the season,” Steichen said. “I don’t want to have a quick leash on that. I feel confident in his abilities.”

Jones began his career as a top 10 draft pick with the New York Giants and started 69 games over six seasons with the team. But he was released by the Giants in November 2024 and finished the remainder of the year with the Minnesota Vikings, although he never played in a game with the team.
In his six seasons in New York, Jones compiled a 24-44-1 record as a starter with 70 touchdown passes, 47 interceptions, and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, has 11 career touchdown passes with 13 interceptions and 10 rushing touchdowns.
The Dolphins lost a 2024 game to the Colts, 16-10, with Richardson in the starting lineup for Indianapolis. With Tua Tagovailoa sidelined, Miami blew an early 10-0 lead with Tyler Huntley at quarterback. Richardson finished with 10 completions on 24 attempts for 129 yards, but led the Colts in rushing with 56 yards.
