Man struck by lightning in NSB Friday dies, was honeymooning from Colorado

A Colorado man died while on his honeymoon after being struck by lightning in New Smyrna Beach Friday, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Director Tammy Malphurs.

Jake A. Rosencranz, 29, died Saturday morning from his injuries, Malphurs said. This was Florida’s first lightning fatality of the year.

Rosencranz was standing in ankle-deep water near 27th Avenue Beach around midday when the incident occurred. Lifeguards started CPR and life-saving measures before he was taken to AdventHealth in New Smyrna Beach, according to Malphurs and emergency first responders.
