Cape Coral man jailed without bond after stabbing, judge rules

A Cape Coral man accused of stabbing a woman during a confrontation, leaving her with life-threatening injuries, will remain in custody without bond.

Alex Ballester, 37, faces charges of kidnapping and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Lee Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson on June 16 ordered no bond.

On June 8, Lee County sheriff’s deputies had responded to Lee Memorial Hospital, in Fort Myers.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said a woman was dropped off at the hospital with life-threatening injuries to her abdomen and was rushed into surgery.

The woman initially told authorities that an unknown suspect attacked her and her boyfriend at Hunter Park, in Pine Manor.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage and spoke with potential witnesses, but as detectives continued their work, Marceno said, they found inconsistencies.

Marceno said a follow-up interview with the woman revealed there was an altercation with Ballester, who stabbed her.

After the stabbing, Marceno said, Ballester threatened the woman.

The sheriff said Ballester forced the woman into the vehicle and drove around with her, eventually taking her to the hospital.

Ballester’s arraignment is July 13.
