The Southeastern Conference named Florida shortstop Brendan Lawson the Co-Player of the Week after leading the Gators in a dominant 4-0 week against FIU and Miami.
Lawson went 8-for-14 with a slash line of .571/.667/1.071 with two home runs, one double and 12 RBIs. He also scored seven runs and led the team with 15 total bases. Lawson drew two walks and was hit by a pitch twice, too. He made three starts at shortstop, converting all six chances for a 1.000 fielding percentage.

The sophomore from Toronto, Ontario, leads the conference with a .636 OBP and ranks inside the top five in batting average (.474, 4th), on-base-plus-slugging percentage (1.557, 3rd), runs batted in (21, 3rd), walks (12, 5th) and weighted runs created-plus (237, 2nd).
Lawson is considered one of the top hitting prospects in the 2027 draft class, earning the top spot among college prospects from Baseball America and the No. 2 spot from D1Baseball and Perfect Game.
After a breakout freshman year with Florida, Lawson has improved in every slash category and is on pace to surpass his first-year total in home runs, RBIs and doubles. Perhaps most impressive is Lawson’s early-season strikeout and walk percentages. He’s walking 21.8% of the time compared to 12.2% a year ago, and his strikeout rate is down to 12.7% from 20.7%, albeit early in the year.
