Due to the volume of inventory — more than 1,500 items — bidding for Bobby Bowden’s memorabilia, personal items and family heirlooms was split across two days: Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18.
While the iconic Florida State football coach’s Killearn Estates home was won by highest bidder Reagan Hobbs, a Tallahassee resident and FSU alumnus, rings stole the spotlight on the memorabilia side Tuesday as the Bowden Legacy Auction draws to a close.
The top bid of the day went to Bowden’s engraved 1993 Orange Bowl ring, commemorating Florida State’s first national championship. It sold for $20,000, with a 15% buyer’s premium pushing the final price to $23,000.
In all, 21,848 bids were placed Tuesday. The event is scheduled to end Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The two-week auction has been managed by Wiregrass Auction Group from Thomasville, Georgia. Other prized items sold Tuesday included:
Of note, Bowden’s personal Bible — which received the auction’s first bid — sold for $5,250.
