DELRAY BEACH — BJ’s Wholesale Club is bringing its smaller-format grocery concept, BJ’s Market, to Delray Beach.
BJ’s currently operates just one other Market in the U.S., in Warwick, Rhode Island.
The Massachusetts-based retailer confirmed earlier this year that a BJ’s Market is planned for the city. External Communications Manager Ryan Carney said in an email the store is expected to open early next year.
“BJ’s has a strong and enthusiastic member base in Florida, and Delray Beach is the perfect community for BJ’s market,” Carney said. “Conveniently located between our Boynton Beach, Parkland, Royal Palm Beach and Coral Springs clubs, this new, smaller club experience is perfect for those in-between grocery trips.”
The store represents a new step in the company’s effort to refine how and where it reaches shoppers.
“Our newest BJ’s market will deliver an innovative approach to grocery shopping to the Delray Beach community,” Bill Werner, BJ’s executive vice president of strategy and development, said in a March news release announcing the new store. “Members will be able to get unbeatable value on fresh food and weekly grocery needs in a quick and efficient shopping experience.”
Here is what shoppers and the community can expect from the new store:
How does BJ’s Market differ from BJ’s Wholesale Club?
BJ’s Market is a smaller-format version of the company’s traditional wholesale club. According to a 2022 news release announcing the first BJ’s Market in Warwick, Rhode Island, the stores are roughly half the size of a standard BJ’s club and focus on fresh foods, produce, bakery items, meat and seasonal products.
Many bulk items and household essentials available at larger BJ’s clubs are still offered. Members can also use services such as curbside pickup, same-day delivery and ExpressPay through the BJ’s mobile app.
Where is the site of the BJ’s Market in Delray Beach?
The new BJ’s Market is planned for the former Winn-Dixie space at the Marketplace of Delray shopping center, at the intersection of Military Trail and Atlantic Avenue. The store’ s address is 14535 S. Military Trail.
The space has been vacant since 2022, when Winn-Dixie, which had operated at the Marketplace of Delray since 1996, closed the store.
How does the BJ’s Market fit into the company’s expansion plans?
According to the March 2025 news release, BJ’s plans to open 25 to 30 new clubs over the next two fiscal years as part of a broader national expansion strategy. The Delray Beach BJ’s Market is among these planned openings and reflects the company’s effort to introduce smaller-format stores in selected markets.
The expansion plan also includes new locations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York and Texas. The company has said the smaller-format Market allows it to serve communities where a full-sized club may not be feasible.
“BJ’s market will serve as an exciting new innovation lab for BJ’s Wholesale Club,” Werner said in a release ahead of the first BJ’s Market opening. “We are bringing the same great savings and value our members know and love, but delivering a convenient location closer to home.”
