Big Bend girls basketball power rankings: Teams build momentum late in season

With the Florida High School Athletic Association postseason approaching, Big Bend girls basketball teams are building momentum as the regular season enters its final two weeks.

Some teams, like Wakulla, remain undefeated, while others — including Madison County, Rickards and Aucilla Christian — continue to climb the power rankings.

The Tallahassee Democrat compiled its latest Big Bend power rankings along with a recap of last weekend’s action. Here’s what you missed:

Rickards picks up its fifth straight win

Rickards avenged an early-season loss during the MLK Classic.

After falling 46-25 to Fort Walton Beach on Dec. 6, the Raiders flipped the script on Jan. 17 with a 35-30 victory over the Vikings.

The win marked Rickards’ fifth straight and improved the Raiders to 10-6. The night before facing Fort Walton Beach, Rickards defeated Orange Park 44-38 and also picked up a win over Florida High earlier in the week.

Rickards will face Godby on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Columbia for a 3 p.m. game on Jan. 24.

Jamiya Brown leads Lincoln to its third straight win

Lincoln senior Jamiya Brown delivered a dominant all-around performance in a 65-49 win over Godby.

Brown posted a double-double with 33 points and 20 rebounds, while also adding seven assists, seven steals and a block.

After enduring a four-game losing streak, Lincoln has won six of its last seven games to improve to 9-8 overall and 3-0 in district play.

The Trojans face a busy schedule this week. Lincoln travels to Chiles on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m., hosts Florida High on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m., then closes the week with back-to-back games against Columbia on Jan. 23 and Rutherford on Jan. 24.
