Bicyclist struck and killed near Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota County

A Sunday afternoon outing turned deadly when a bicyclist was killed in a vehicle collision near a popular beach access point on Siesta Key.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 1:22 p.m. on February 8 at 514 Beach Road, specifically at the entrance to Beach Access 9.

Following the collision, the injured bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, the individual was later pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

How did the investigation impact traffic?

While Beach Road remains open to through traffic, the entrance to Beach Access 9 is closed due to the investigation, the department said. 

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has taken the lead on the investigation, with Sarasota County deputies providing assistance at the scene. Authorities have not yet stated what caused the collision or if the driver of the vehicle involved faces any charges.
