Baker Mayfield has earned plenty of respect around the NFL since arriving in Tampa Bay, and now one of the league’s premier pass rushers has added his name to that list.
During a recent livestream with popular streamer N3ON, Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby was asked which quarterbacks are the toughest to bring down. While discussing the league’s most elusive quarterbacks, Crosby singled out Mayfield with high praise. “Sleeper one too: Baker Mayfield. He pissed me off, bro. I had like two of them I should’ve had on him. He lowkey ducked under and got out of there.”
The Raiders’ star has established himself as one of the NFL’s elite edge rushers, routinely finishing among the league leaders in sacks and quarterback pressures. If a player of Crosby’s caliber says a quarterback is difficult to sack, it’s because that player has consistently found ways to escape what should have been game-changing plays.
That has become one of Mayfield’s trademarks throughout his career.
While he isn’t known for the blazing speed of quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Mayfield has mastered subtle pocket movement. His ability to duck under pass rushers, sidestep pressure, and extend plays has frustrated defenders for years and often turns broken plays into positive gains for Tampa Bay’s offense.
Crosby’s comments become even more impressive in light of what was recently revealed in Netflix’s Quarterback. The series showed that Mayfield played through PCL and MCL injuries beginning in Week 2, later suffered a bicep bruise against the New York Jets, and eventually battled an AC joint injury in his shoulder. Even while dealing with those injuries, he still managed to escape one of the league’s most dominant pass rushers.
For the Buccaneers, it’s another reminder of why they’ve committed to Mayfield as their quarterback. His toughness and knack for keeping plays alive continue to earn the respect of teammates, coaches, and even the defenders trying to bring him down. Judging by Crosby’s comments, Mayfield’s ability to evade pressure has become one of the most respected parts of his game.
