AFC North squad not expected to trade for Dolphins' Jonnu Smith

The Miami Dolphins have been exploring the possibility of trading tight end Jonnu Smith.

With Smith entering the final year of his contract, it’s natural that the 6-foot-3, 248-pound tight end would be angling for the security of a new long-term deal. Smith reportedly wants more money but would like to stay in Miami.

A Tuesday report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter indicates that at least one potential trade suitor has fallen by the wayside. According to Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to trade for Smith.

The two teams had engaged in talks surrounding Smith, but the Steelers are now planning on hosting free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis.

Smith is coming off a career year in his lone season with the Dolphins. The eight-year pro registered 88 grabs last season for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. In his career, Smith has reeled in 307 passes for 3,307 yards and 28 touchdown grabs.

Across stints in Tennessee, New England, Atlanta and Miami, Smith has played in 124 games and started 84 during his NFL career.
