5 free agents Dolphins could sign after June-1 cap relief

The Miami Dolphins got some financial freedom on Monday, as they opened up some cap space with the post-June 1 cuts for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and linebacker Bradley Chubb becoming official.

With these two moves, the Dolphins created around $20 million in cap space, of which, roughly $10 million will go to their 13 picks from the 2026 NFL draft.

Having about $10 million left to spend, the Dolphins may decide to add a veteran to help their roster in 2026. This players could make an impact on the field and/or help the younger guys get acclimated to the game as on-field coach.

Here are a few veterans Miami may consider signing.

WR Stefon Diggs

The 32-year-old former fifth-round pick has made four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams while playing with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills Houston Texans and New England Patriots over 11 seasons. In 161 career games, he’s caught 942 passes for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns.

Diggs is probably the best wide receiver left on the market and bringing him in would give Malik Willis a talented target so Miami can see if he’s capable of being a team’s starting quarterback.

TE Darren Waller

The 33-year-old former sixth-round round pick of Georgia Tech has made one Pro Bowl in nine seasons while playing for the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Dolphins. In 95 games, he’s caught 374 passes for 4,407 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Waller is familiar with the offense, having spent the 2025 season in Miami. He’d also make life a bit easier on Greg Dulcich, who is expected to be the team’s top tight end this year.

OL Kevin Zeitler

The 36-year-old former first-round pick out of Wisconsin has started 213 games in the NFL while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans over 14 years.

Signing Zeitler would give even more competition for Jonah Savaiinaea, who is expected to start at right guard. If Zeitler wins, Willis and co. have better blocking up front.

DE A.J. Epenesa

The 27-year-old former second-round pick out of Iowa spent the last six seasons with the Buffalo Bills and recorded 135 tackles, 53 quarterback hits, 24 sacks, 21 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 91 games.

Epenesa would give the Dolphins another option to rush the passer opposite Chop Robinson. We also already know Miami has been interested because the two sides have already met before

DB Donovan Wilson

The 31-year-old former sixth-round pick out of Texas A&M has spent the last seven years with the Dallas Cowboys. In 98 games (75 starts), he’s recorded 444 tackles, 19 passes defensed, 18 quarterback hits, 13 sacks, nine forced fumbles, eight interceptions and six fumble recoveries.

Miami moved on from both starting safeties this offseason. Having Wilson as another veteran competing for the spot could only be a good thing.
