A Haines City man was killed in a crash along Polk City Road on the morning of March 21.
Polk County deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle along Polk City Road about 8 a.m.
A 2021 Toyota Corolla and a 2013 Honda motorcycle were traveling west on Polk City Road in slow-moving traffic. The motorcycle, driven by 37-year-old Reynaldo Diaz of Haines City, attempted to pass multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lane, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The unnamed driver of the Corolla did not see the motorcycle and attempted to do the same thing, entering the eastbound lanes, the Sheriff’s Office.
Diaz was unable to avoid the collision and was thrown from his motorcycle. The motorcycle came to a stop about 200 feet away from the point of impact.
Diaz was wearing a helmet but had significant injuries, and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The unnamed driver of the Corolla was uninjured.
An investigation is open and ongoing at this time.
