28-year-old Wauchula man killed in Manatee County crash

A 28-year-old Wauchula man was killed Friday afternoon, May 22, in a multi-vehicle crash on State Road 62 east of Bunker Hill Road in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man was driving a Nissan sedan west on SR-62 at about 4 p.m. when his car crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming semi-tractor trailer. The truck was driven by a 66-year-old Kissimmee man, who suffered minor injuries.

An Audi SUV and a Toyota pickup traveling behind the Nissan struck debris from the crash, but no one in those vehicles was hurt. There were three people from Lakeland in the SUV and three people from Nokomis and Sarasota in the pickup.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there have been 128,607 crashes in Florida, with 899 involving fatalities, between Jan. 1 and May 14, 2026.

There have been 2,168 crashes in Manatee County, with 19 involving fatalities, and of the 2,437 crashes in Sarasota County, 17 have been deadly.
