For two innings, it seemed like Florida softball would orchestrate one of its greatest moments in recent program history.
Until Mia Williams came to the plate.
The former Gator-turned-Texas Tech second baseman blasted a two-run home run over the pitching lab at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for a 10-8 Red Raiders lead and the eventual win.
The homer erased a furious UF comeback that went from a 7-1 Red Raider lead to an 8-8 tie before all was said and done.
However, the comeback gave Florida critical momentum it’ll need with its season on the line vs reigning National Player of the Year NiJaree Canady.
“We just got to stay with our plan,” Ava Brown, who homered twice on Friday and drove in two RBIs said. “We came in with a good plan.”
The Gators will also look to keep Keagan Rothrock in the game longer – she was pulled after four innings – and improve in the field. UF committed two errors and saw multiple balls just barely get into the outfield.
Can Florida improve upon those mistakes and force a winner-take-all Game 3 from KSP Sunday? We’re about to find out.
