When to expect Shasta County to certify all June 2 election results

Shasta County will vote whether to approve certifying the results of the June 2 Congressional District 1 special election on Tuesday, but the certification of the primary election in which voters decided three key races that will likely reshape the county’s priorities could still be days away.

The House race, which saw Republican James Gallagher triumph within Shasta and the broader North State district, is set to be certified at the June 30 Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting. Gallagher was sworn in June 10 in Washington D.C. to serve the remainder of the term for the late U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who died on Jan. 6.

Included in the board meeting packet prepared by the county was a document certifying the election results, signed by County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis.

When will Shasta County’s June 2 primary election results be certified?

Curtis told the newspaper that he will certify the rest of the results of the June 2 primary election on July 2.

The state will then certify the results on July 10, and only after that will the board of supervisors certify the results.

Unofficial results from the June 2 primary election showed:

Final special election results showed that Gallagher received 66.6% of the vote in Shasta County, and 62.1% of the vote across Congressional District 1.

By securing over 50% of the vote, Gallagher will be directly appointed to office and avoid the tentatively scheduled Aug. 4 runoff.

Gallagher will serve until the term expires and a new, as-of-yet unknown, elected official takes over the seat of the redrawn district on Jan. 3, 2027.

The District 1 special election should not be confused with the, still ongoing, regular Congressional District 1 race for a two-year 2027 to 2029 term, which Shasta County is not voting in.

That’s because, due to statewide redistricting, Shasta, Siskiyou and Modoc counties will be placed in California’s 2nd congressional district starting in 2027.

Gallagher also is running in this regular District 1 race, and will move on to the November 2026 general election, though faces a formidable threat in Democratic candidate Mike McGuire, who received nearly the same amount of votes as Gallagher in the June 2 primary election.

For their 2027-2029 House representative, Shasta County will instead be voting in the Congressional District 2 race in November, in which incumbent Democrat Jared Huffman and Republican candidate and Enterprise Elementary School Board Trustee Robin Littau will battle for the seat.
