The San Francisco 49ers may have fallen short of a Super Bowl title in recent seasons, but at least they’re winning the fashion contest.
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick ranked the 49ers’ uniform aesthetic second in the NFL heading into 2026, trailing only the Los Angeles Chargers in his league-wide assessment of all 32 teams.
Kadlick had high praise across the board for San Francisco’s full collection:
The 49ers’ uniform catalog is nothing short of spectacular. Not only are their traditional home and away kits (with the recently updated Saloon-style wordmark) considered classics, but their red and white throwback kits with the drop-shadow numbers are the cleanest look in the sport. Throw in what I ranked as the No. 1 Rivalries look last season, and you’ve got yourself the second-best uniform set in the NFL.
The nod covers multiple layers of the 49ers’ wardrobe. The primary home and away sets have long been considered among the league’s most recognizable, anchored by the franchise’s signature scarlet and gold. The recent updates gives those classics a subtle refresh without abandoning the traditional identity that dates back decades.
The only thing standing between San Francisco and the top spot is the Chargers’ powder blue set, which Kadlick called a perfect 10 with no notes. Now, if only the fresh look could translate to Super Bowl victories.
