Warriors receive encouraging Al Horford update from unlikely source

The Golden State Warriors are eager to improve their frontcourt depth this offseason, beginning with two important free agents, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.

As it pertains to Horford, he holds a $5.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season, which would be the 20th of his career. While very little has been reported on Horford’s decision-making process this offseason, Warriors fans inadvertently received good news on his status from an unlikely source, draft prospect Labaron Philon (Alabama).

Following Philon’s pre-draft workout with Golden State Thursday, he spoke about seeing Horford at Golden State’s facility. “I saw Al (Horford) this morning. He was here all day. He got here early. Just seeing those guys’ routines really for me, as a young guy; I feel like that’s one of the things I picked up really well to see how those guys come in,” said Philon.

Philon also mentioned seeing Draymond Green, Will Richard and LJ Cryer. But, of those four, Horford’s inclusion is by far the most notable, as he has until June 29 to decide on his player option. Although his presence only provides speculation, had Horford been leaning toward declining his option or retiring, he may not have spent the day at Golden State’s facility.
