Following their failed pursuit of many star players, the Golden State Warriors have made headlines when it comes to the future of former two-time MVP Stephen Curry. Will Curry stay with the franchise or move on to compete somewhere else?
Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. recently spoke about these possibilities earlier today. “I’m pretty confident Steph will finish his career (with the Warriors),” Dunleavy Jr. told NBA insider Anthony Slater.
“There are two things I’m confident about with Steph. He really, really wants to win, and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior. I don’t think that changes tomorrow, August 29th, start of the season, middle of the season, or end of next season. Those things are going to be consistent.”
However, Dunleavy Jr. did admit that Curry has “earned the right to do what he wants” and that the front office would discuss possible trade scenarios if Curry were to request a move. That said, the biggest indication of Curry’s mindset will be revealed when contract extension talks take place. The former Davidson guard will have the opportunity to sign for one or two more seasons this summer.
If Curry decides to wait, his contract will run out and he’ll reach the open market next summer.
