Authorities have identified a 40-year-old passenger who was killed in a multi-vehicle wreck along Pearblossom Highway between Llano and El Mirage this week.
Elya Tsatinyan died at the scene of the collision, which took place just before noon Wednesday, Jan. 14, on the highway just west of 195th Street, in the unincorporated area along the border between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, according to Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner records and California Highway Patrol officials.
Her city of residence was not listed.
Tsatinyan was riding in a 2026 Range Rover that became involved in a crash with 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck and a big rig, CHP officials said.
The Chevrolet was headed west as a 2015 Peterbilt big rig hauling to dump trailers was headed the opposite direction on the two-lane roadway, according to a CHP statement.
“The Chevrolet crossed the center of the highway and collided with the Peterbilt,” the statement said. “The driver of the Peterbilt was unable to prevent the truck tractor and trailers from entering the westbound traffic lanes and striking a 2026 Range Rover traveling in the opposite direction.”
“Tragically, an unbelted adult occupant of the Range Rover sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel,” the agency stated.
The victim, later identified as Tsatinyan had been riding as a rear passenger in the Range Rover, MyNewsLA.com reported.
An autopsy determined she died from “multiple blunt force injuries,” and the death was ruled accidental, coroner’s records show.
The crash remained under investigation by officers from the CHP’s Antelope Valley Area office. Information regarding any additional injuries associated with the wreck were not available.
“The CHP reminds all motorists of the critical importance of always wearing a seatbelt and ensuring all passengers are properly restrained,” the CHP statement said. “Seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of fatal and serious injuries in traffic collisions.”
Any witnesses, or anyone with information, can reach the CHP’s Antelope Valley Area Office at (661) 743-6060.
