While Jayden Maiava is widely expected to be under center for the Trojans when they kickoff off their season vs. Missouri State next week, head coach Lincoln Riley has still not officially named a starting quarterback yet. However, one of USC’s rivals has, as on Tuesday, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman revealed that redshirt freshman CJ Carr will start for the Fighting Irish this fall.
Carr appeared in one game for Notre Dame last fall. However, he has yet to attempt a pass at the college level.

The Trojans are set to visit South Bend on October 18. D’Anton Lynn and the USC defense will be tasked with preparing for Carr and Notre Dame’s offense.
Carr is the grandson of legendary Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. The Trojans defeated Carr’s Wolverines in both the 2004 and 2007 Rose Bowls. This fall, they will be looking to deal the younger Carr the same fate.
