USC baseball’s Augie Lopez, Adam Troy sign professional contracts

Monday marked the signing deadline for players selected in the 2027 MLB Draft. The USC baseball program got some great news with the announcement that star pitcher Grant Govel will not sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates—who selected him in the 16th round of the draft—and will instead return to the Trojans for the 2027 season.

Two other USC players, however, elected to sign professional contracts after hearing their names called in the draft. One of those was designated hitter/catcher Augie Lopez, who signed with the San Diego Padres after being selected by them in the tenth round. Notably, Lopez signed for a bonus of just $10,000, significantly below the slot value for his draft slot.

In addition, pitcher Adam Troy signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, who drafted him in the 17th round. Troy signed for the slot value of $150,000.

Lopez and Troy join second round pick Mason Edwards, who signed with the Athletics for $2.4 million last week. Having signed, the college baseball careers all three are over. They will now await minor league assignments from the teams that drafted them.
