USC baseball rises to No. 9 in USA Today Coaches Poll after Iowa sweep

After a four-game losing streak, the USC baseball team bounced back in a big way over the weekend. The Trojans swept Iowa in a three-game series at Dedeaux Field, improving to 30-7 on the 2026 season.

Following the sweep, USC rose to No. 9 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. The Trojans moved up one spot after coming in at No. 10 last week.

While the USA Today Coaches Poll is not an official set of rankings used by the NCAA in its postseason selection process, finishing the regular season in the top 16 would be big for the Trojans. This is because the top 16 seeds get to host the first weekend of NCAA Tournament games on their home campuses. Last season, USC had to travel on the road to Oregon State for NCAA Tournament games, where the Trojans fell to the Beavers in a hostile environment.

USC will visit Nebraska in a massive three-game series this weekend. With the Trojans and Huskers currently sitting in third and second place in the conference standings, respectively, it will be a huge series for the Big Ten race as it starts to heat up.

First, however, USC will head down to Long Beach for a matchup at Long Beach State Tuesday night. The Trojans will be looking to sweep the season series from their Southern California foes following a 6-1 victory at Dedeaux Field last month.
