US LBM Coaches Poll has Big Ten teams falling out of the top 25

The USA TODAY Sports US LBM Coaches Poll for Week 7 has come out. Five Big Ten teams remain in the top 25, but Penn State and Michigan have fallen out after losses to conference opponents.

The five Big Ten teams that made the list were the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, No. 3 Indiana Hoosiers, No. 9 Oregon Ducks, No. 21 USC Trojans and No. 25 Illinois Fighting Illini. Michigan still received 119 votes, but Penn State didn’t after the three game losing streak and questions surrounding their coach.

The No. 1 Ohio State remained supreme at the top of the poll after they ousted the No. 25 Fighting Illini in their 34-16 win. Illinois’ loss had them falling eight spots and remaining on the poll by the skin of their teeth.

The Hoosiers and Ducks faced off this week and junior quarterback Fernando Mendoza helped propel the Indiana offense past Oregon in the 30-20 win. It was reflected in the USA TODAY Sports US LBM Coaches Poll as well with Indiana moving up four spots and Oregon falling seven spots.

The Trojans returned to the top 25 after they defended the LA Memorial Coliseum and blew out the Wolverines. USC’s only loss of the season came against the No. 25 Illinois, due to a go ahead field goal putting the Fighting Illini up 34-32.

Outside of the Big Ten, the most significant change came from No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners falling seven places after their loss to the No. 17 Texas Longhorns.
