Update: 6 p.m.
Firefighters reported Wednesday afternoon that forward progress had been stopped on a grass fire that burned about 16 acres east of Redding. Crews had earlier reported the fire burned about 5 acres.
Ground crews who worked on the fire said no structures were threatened by the blaze, which was moving at a moderate rate of spread, according to emergency scanner traffic.
The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. in the 8000 block of Quail Valley Drive, about a mile east of Airport Road and south of Highway 44. Hand crews and air tankers were assigned to the fire and a bulldozer was requested to help put in a containment line around the blaze.
A firefighter on the scene reported that crews were “making good progress” on putting out the fire. An official working on the fire reported that at about 3:30 p.m. that crews had stopped the forward progress on the fire.
