UCLA wide receiver Kaedin Robinson filed for a lawsuit against the NCAA for eligibility to play in the 2025 season, but was denied by a judge. This leaves the Bruins without a possible explosive weapon for new quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Robinson was denied an eligibility waiver to play the upcoming season by the NCAA and filed a lawsuit to play for a fifth season. The disappointing ruling came down for the Bruin pass catcher, according to Pete Nakos of On3. USC’s offensive lineman DJ Wingfield was also denied on Monday by Judge James V. Selna in Los Angeles, according to USC Trojans Wire.
“Wingfield and Robinson challenged the legality of the NCAA’s Five-Year Rule, which contends that players are eligible to play four seasons of competition across five years,” Pete Nakos of On3 wrote in his article. “The decision to file the lawsuit came after the NCAA denied waivers for a final season of eligibility.”

The ruling will hurt the Bruins’ receiver core. The former Appalachian State Mountaineer receiver racked up 148 receptions for 2,194 yards and 15 touchdowns over the course of 4 years, according to ESPN. He scored 10 of those touchdowns in 2023, showing that he could be an explosive playmaker if necessary.
For what it’s worth, he was the third highest rated player for the Bruins in CFB 26, behind redshirt sophomore quarterback Iamaleava and junior running back Jaivian Thomas.
The Bruins have 13 receivers listed on their roster and without him, the Bruins will have to rely more on their possible key starting wideouts Titus Mokiao-Atimalala and Mikey Matthews and young weapons like Kwazi Gilmer.
