On Wednesday, UCLA Bruins’ junior Jordan Woolery appeared on the Big Ten Network’s “B1G Today” show Big Ten Network’s “B1G Today” show ahead of the start of the Los Angeles Regional on Friday, where UCLA will face off against Arizona State, San Diego State and UC Santa Barbara.
Woolery was one of eight Bruins named to the All-West Region Teams and was one of the five UCLA players named to the First Team. In addition to the regional recognition, Woolery was named one of the 10 finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year award. Her stats back up the awards, as Woolery batted .416 so far this season with 20 home runs and 75 runs batted in.
“Regionals bring out the best in everyone,” Woolery said. “Just play Bruin softball. Not worry too much about the opponent, obviously we have the scouting report going and focusing on the pitchers and what they throw this weekend but just playing UCLA softball and being our best when our best is needed.”
While Woolery has been one of the top hitters in the country, teammate Megan Grant has been right there with her, with Grant batting .379 with 23 homers and 73 runs batted in but Woolery and Grant aren’t just close in the team’s statistics leaderboards, but off the field too.
“Before I go up to bat, each time I look at Megan and say ‘I got you’ and we hit our bats together,” Woolery said. “It’s this unspoken, but also kind of spoken too, bond that we have each other no matter what. Even off the field too, we’re super close.”
