UCLA men’s basketball will have to prove the experts wrong against Gonzaga in Seattle. College Sports Wire writer Adam Childs, who follows Michigan basketball closely, sized up the UCLA-Gonzaga game, having seen Gonzaga lose to Michigan by 40 points earlier this season. Childs doesn’t think Gonzaga’s blowout loss to Michigan means the Zags will similarly fall to the Bruins:
“The Bruins pose a threat to the Bulldogs, but Gonzaga has been dominant outside of their game against Michigan. They have shown they can beat good teams and are looking to strengthen their resume once again on Saturday.
“The Bruins, though, need a big-time win as they have lost their lone game against a ranked opponent. They are highly motivated, but they are going to struggle to match up with the Bulldogs. Gonzaga wins this one. Prediction: Gonzaga 87, UCLA 79”
If Gonzaga does score 87, it’s very hard to see UCLA winning. The Bruins have to slow down the pace and take away 3-pointers and layups from the Zags. Donovan Dent also needs to be at his very best. UCLA needs to begin to get a real return on investment.
