UCLA baseball remains comfortably on top of USA TODAY Sports poll

No. 1 UCLA baseball remains on top of the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll released on Monday, April 20, even after losing their 27-game winning streak.

The Bruins have remained on top since the Week 3 poll released back on March 2nd and they seem in no rush to give it up. Despite UCLA falling to UC Santa Barbara last Tuesday, the Bruins have a hefty lead over their competition and received an unanimous first place position.

UCLA has swept the Big Ten Conference up to this point of the season with seven straight series sweeps after the Bruins wrapped up their series finale against Minnesota on Sunday.

The Bruins just seem to find a way to win, whether it’s by the swings of batters like junior infielder Roch Cholowsky or the arm of pitchers like record-tying junior right-handed pitcher Logan Reddemann.

The craftiness of head coach John Savage’s crew has put the Bruins in prime position at this point of the season with just three losses overall and an undefeated conference record.

Meanwhile, their Big Ten opponents continue to slide down the ranks with No. 21 Oregon dropping two spots and No. 23 USC collapsing down 14 ranks. The No. 16 Nebraska appears to be on a bit of a rebound though with an ascension of nine positions.

UCLA will play their last midweek game at Jackie Robinson Stadium against Hawaii on Tuesday with an anticipated start time of 6 p.m. PT.
