UCLA adds four-star defensive end David Schwerzel to 2026 recruiting class

DeShaun Foster and the UCLA Bruins won a recruiting battle on Thursday with four star defensive end David Schwerzel committed to the Bruins, choosing UCLA over Stanford and Washington.

Schwerzel will add onto the Bruins’ 2026 class, snagging the No. 37 defensive end in the class, who seemed he’d be a Washington Husky and become a conference opponent for the Bruins. Schwerzel is from Seattle and was projected to go to Washington in 247 Sports’ previous projections.

Schwerzel attended O’Dea High School, just miles away from Washington’s Husky Stadium, but still Schwerzel opted to head to Westwood for a chance to compete against the Huskies for a Big Ten title over the next four years.

247 Sports also had Schwerzel as the No. 2 recruit in the entire state of Washington. As a junior, Schwerzel posted a team-high 3.0 sacks while helping lead the O’Dea Fighting Irish to a 13-0 record which culminated with a 3A state football championship.

“UCLA has always been one of the schools I’ve been interested in, ever since a little kid.” Schwerzel said to UCLA Rivals’ Tracy McDannald back in 2024.

Schwerzel is listed at 6’4” and 275 pounds, possessing ideal size for a defensive end, which made him so desirable for the Bruins and other college programs, including Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame.

Foster adds Schwerzel to an already impressive 2026 recruiting class for the UCLA Bruins. ESPN has the Bruins with six four star recruits, while having Schwerzel as one of UCLA’s 11 three-star-or-better recruits.
