It may be a while before the Ty Simpson era officially begins as the Los Angeles Rams’ starting quarterback, but fans got their first taste of the No. 13 overall pick on Saturday in the preseason opener. He and the Rams took on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, the unofficial NFL debut for the Alabama product.
He entered the game after Stetson Bennett handled the first two series of the afternoon, coming in at the end of the first quarter. Simpson said on Thursday that he wasn’t going to do anything he wasn’t capable of doing, simply being himself after heeding the advice of Matthew Stafford.
He looked good in the first half, going 9-for-11 for 74 yards with one drive ending in a field goal, displaying confidence and comfort within the offense. His second-half performance was even better, finding a groove on offense by targeting Max Klare and Dean Connors often.
Simpson threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to lead the Rams’ comeback, looking sharp throughout the game. He finished 21-for-25 with 190 yards and two touchdowns, an excellent debut for the rookie quarterback.
Here’s how fans reacted to his preseason debut on social media.
