International travel magazine Travel and Leisure praised Shasta and Siskiyou counties’ outdoor beauty and recreational opportunities in its July 24 feature about waterfall destinations in far Northern California.
“Articles like this one and events like” Redding’s first Ironman in mid-August “are helping to show the world what this community has to offer,” Redding city officials posted on social media.
And why not crow? As Travel and Leisure said, the area’s 250-mile “Waterfall Loop begins and ends in Redding, connecting nine waterfalls through the Southern Cascade region.”

OK, so they missed a few waterfalls. In Travel and Leisure’s defense, not all of far Northern California 17 popular waterfalls are on Visit Redding tourism site’s waterfall loop vacation.
With so many outdoor sites to visit, the magazine recommends travelers on road trips take their a few days to visit the scenic Southern Cascade region.
Travel and Leisure’s story included recommendations to visit the three McClouds and Faery, Potem, Burney, Crystal Creek and the four Whiskeytown falls.
The travel magazine also suggested hikes, dining stops in Redding and Dunsmuir, the cave at Hedge Creek Falls and popular swimming holes along the loop.
