The Coachella Valley should have some exceptional receivers in 2026. But the names might not be ones fans are familiar with — at least not yet.
Some of the biggest name receivers in the valley last year have graduated. Jonah Toland broke Palm Desert High School’s single-season record with 75 catches last season and added 1,031 yards and a school-record 16 touchdown catches. Brandon Peffers also broke Shadow Hills’ single season catching records for receptions (63), receiving yards (860) and touchdown catches (15).
While they’re both gone now, they aren’t the only ones coming off of big seasons. Let’s look at some of the top returning wide receivers and you can vote to tell us who you think is the best fo the best.
Aiden Pope, Yucca Valley
Yucca Valley’s Aiden Pope caught 68 passes for a valley-high 1,178 yards and 15 touchdowns. At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, he set a school record with 310 yards and four touchdown receptions in a single game. Could his numbers be even bigger this year?
“He’s got to be one of the best receivers in the area,” Trojans head coach Jeremy Johnson said. “He’ll set (some) school records this year.”
Judah Garrison, Desert Christian Academy
Desert Christian Academy has an unbeaten regular season, and we’ll get an even better idea this season how this Conquerors team stacks up against other valley teams. Desert Christian Academy will face Yucca valley, Cathedral City and Twentynine Palms in 2026, and junior receiver Judah Garrison will be a player to watch once again for the Conquerors.
Garrison, a 6-foot junior, caught just 23 passes last season, but 11 went for touchdowns. Garrison, who also recorded 17 interceptions over the last two seasons, will surely be one of the valley’s most dynamic two-way players. The expectation here is that he’ll be featured even more prominently on offense in 2026.
Trey Boulton, Palm Desert
Then there’s the second player in Palm Desert’s 1-2 punch at receiver from last year: Trey Boulton. The 6-foot-1 senior caught 62 passes for 768 yards and nine touchdowns last year. He caught 10 passes against Xavier Prep and recorded 124 receiving yards and a touchdown in a first round playoff win over Marina. He then caught six passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in a win over Patriot in the CIF-SS quarterfinals.
Damian Durinzi, Indio
Indio senior Damian Durinzi will move from quarterback to receiver this season, and his speed should make him one of the more elusive playmakers in the valley. We’ve had a chance to see him in practice this summer and the 5-foot-8 track star 400 meters (49.63 in the 400 and 15.42 in the 110 hurdles) simply moves at a gear faster than everyone else.
Durinzi will surely move all over the field for the Rajahs, but receiver is the position where we look forward to seeing him to the most. He’ll play in the slot, on the outside and even out of the backfield.
Reef Avergonzado, Shadow Hills
If you don’t already know the name, Reef Avergonzado is one you should know. The Shadow Hills senior is only about 5-foot-7 but like Durinzi he has wheels and has been a big-play threat in the passing game for the last two seasons. He caught 48 passes for 555 yards and six touchdowns last season, and we expect even more production from him this year.
New Knights head coach Nick King expects that, too.
“We will be looking to get him the ball in space as much as possible,” King said. “He’s a really great athlete, he’s very instinctive about spacing and route running. He has elite footwork and soft hands, good hand-eye coordination (and) we want him to step into more of a vocal leader as well.”

Last week, we asked you to vote for the top returning quarterback in the desert and you selected Coachella Valley signal caller Ivan Garza. He helped lead the Arabs to a CIF-SS semifinals appearance a year ago, behind a 19-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also ran for nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns. Good choice.
