Los Angeles Rams training camp is nearly upon us, with veterans and rookies reporting to Loyola Marymount on Saturday. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding this team, but the biggest talking point is about a player who’s not even on the 90-man roster.
Aaron Donald is thinking about coming back to the Rams, something the team is obviously open to. And as they wait for his decision, they’ll head into camp already equipped with one of the best defensive lines in football.
Sean McVay will certainly be asked about Donald’s plans during his first press conference, but Jason La Canfora of OnSI got the coach on his podcast to share some insight ahead of camp. McVay confirmed Donald is still thinking things over, and said he’ll “go through his process” before deciding.
“I have crossed paths with Aaron Donald,” McVay told Jason La Canfora on “The Daily Flock” podcast. “What’s special is, we have a really special relationship. And it’s way bigger than football. I’ve heard him say it before and it means the world to me — and I feel the same — it’s family with us. He’s done so much for me. I love the man he is. I love the husband, the father, the son. He represents a lot of the things that are right.
“And what he’s going to do is, he is thinking about this. He’s going to go through his process. And the one thing about Aaron Donald is, what he does, he does it full speed ahead.”
It’s nothing drastically new regarding Donald’s future, but it is good to hear that McVay has been talking to Donald, and that Aaron is still open to returning.
We know the Rams aren’t pushing him to come back, giving him the space needed to make this decision on his own without any external pressure. But you can bet they’re clamoring for No. 99 to put on the horns for one more season alongside Myles Garrett and Byron Young.
