San Joaquin County reports more than 33,000 ballots still unprocessed

The latest unprocessed ballot report from the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters showed more than 33,000 ballots remained unprocessed in the June 2 primary election ahead of a scheduled results update Monday.

San Joaquin County has processed 107,292 ballots so far, including ballots counted on election night. Election workers processed 33,044 ballots since the previous report, significantly reducing the number of outstanding ballots.

The report released with the latest wave of election results Friday, June 5, showed 33,626 ballots left to process. The next update of results is expected by 7 p.m. Monday.

The largest category of unprocessed ballots consists of 27,090 vote-by-mail ballots received on or before Election Day. Another 4,886 vote-by-mail ballots were received after Election Day and remain to be processed.

The remaining unprocessed ballots include 543 conditional voter registration ballots, 200 ballots forwarded by other counties and 57 provisional ballots. Another 850 damaged ballots are being remade or undergoing further review.

In addition, 1,278 ballots remained in the signature-curing process as of Friday because the identification envelope was unsigned or contained a signature that could not be matched.

No ballots cast at voting locations remained unprocessed, according to the report.

The remaining ballots could affect several races, including three Stockton City Council contests in which no candidate has yet reached a majority. Election workers continue counting ballots submitted in the primary election.

Updated results are available on the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters website.

San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Olivia Hale said the goal is to certify the election by June 25, the earliest date allowed under state law.
