John McKay isn’t going anywhere.
The Los Angeles Rams assistant general manager wasn’t hired to become the next GM of the Minnesota Vikings despite having a second interview for the job. The Vikings instead hired Seattle Seahawks assistant GM Nolan Teasley, according to NFL Network.
This is a big front-office win for the Rams, who were at risk of losing a key young piece of GM Les Snead’s staff. McKay is still considered one of the top names to land a GM job at some point, but he’ll return to the Rams as they pursue another Super Bowl.
McKay had a clear connection to the Vikings in Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell, who was the Rams’ offensive coordinator from 2020-2021 under Sean McVay.McKay joined the Rams as a scouting assistant in 2016. The Rams promoted McKay to assistant general manager in 2025 after he was the director of pro scouting for the previous four years. He also played a key role in identifying and signing linebacker Nate Landman last offseason before Landman’s breakout season and subsequent extension.
